hdd not detected.

ok, here is the deal my cable that came with the mobo was not long enough. So I used the one that came with the mobo to go from the first mobo scoket closest to the bottom to go to the hdd. And I used the one that I got with my new hdd to go from my cd rom to go the the second mobo slot

Would this be part of the problem why my hdd is not detected?

Have you formated it?
I mean the HD, if not then the OS will of course not detect it
Same thing happened to me once but this was the issue
Hope this helps

But have you tried to check if all the cables in the computers are set and put in corectly? what computer brand is this? Or did you build it yourself?

I t could be the thing you did because of the cable being short...
Try with a longer cable and connect all of them correctly and try again.

What OS are you installing on the HDD?
Most OS CD's are bootable. so change bios to boot from CD Rom first and then pop in your OS cd adn you'll get an option to format and then install your os.

If you CD is not bootable, download a bootdisk from www.bootdisk.com and format it the old fashioned way.

Radon:
I assume this is a follow up to your earlier thread about not being able to install an OS - is that true??

When you say the HD is not detected do you mean it is not being detected by your BIOS??

To answer your question, it should not make a difference which cable you use. Just make sure its an 80 conductor cable, and the blue end is connected to the MB, black to master, gray to slave.

In your other thread you indicated you were using a WD drive - if that's correct, pay close attention to the jumpers. Most of the WD drives won't be detected if you have a single drive on the cable, jumpered as master. You have to either jumper it as cable select or single drive (usually no jumper). I know this because I recently RMA'd a perfectly good drive because I made that mistake & didn't catch it until it was too late.

No, I didnt ask that question before. But I thought why not try and take the jumper off kinda like you said. And the WD support site "If the drive is the only device on the IDE cable, the jumper shunt should be removed completely or on pins 4-6."

And it seems to be starting up
