How easily can the heatsink damage your CPU?

Hey all I was putting my first heat sink on and I am afraid I might have damaged my CPU, I was trying to get it on to the second latch and slide down and landed ontop of it. I am getting the rest of my comp parts tomorrow and I wont find out how bad the damage is. Is this the kind of thing that ruins em?

What you can do to make the process safer is file a notch into a flathead screwdriver, it stops it from slipping off the spring clip.

Good luck.

Send a message via ICQ to JPMiller
do you notice any chipping along the edge of the die?
I had a chipped die once that ran just fine...depends on how bad the chipping is

Just make sure you check the thermal compound.

I don't understand what a notch in a flathead scredriver can do? I always slip the srewdriver off and end up hitting the mobo..hard. Never dmg'ed one, but seem to have gotten prety close. If there is a way to stop this, that would be awsome.

Yeah just put a notch in the end of a screwdriver and that'll help stop the slipping from happening.
