Need Quick Help! Need to connect to share on Workgroup!

On site help needed as usual, lol.

Fresh install of xp home....trying to hook back up to the workgroup...I see all the comps and shares etc....when I click on the one I want to connect to, it gives me a password prompt...I type in the password and it just sits there.....I went to the w98 comp and changed the password to make sure I had the right one and I came back and tried it again but it still just sits there...

What am I forgetting??

Thanks, JP

for a simple fix for that, I've found if you go to your Windows account, and set a password, (which you can remove then)...it should allow you in.

To avoid having to do that, when you install Windows XP on a machine, DO NOT use the stupid Network Setup Wizard to share a folder. Simply use the Sharing option when you right click on the folder

Set a password on WHICH windows account? the w98 computer?

I didnt use the wizard I dont think, lol.

Hard to believe microsoft designed it this way knowing that THOUSANDS of offices and home networks would have to go thru this bullcrap.

I already made the W98 comp use "client for Msoft networks" as the primary login....and used the blank for the password...so I guess the blank doesnt work??

You're sitting on an XP machine, trying to access a Windows 98 machine, right?

If so, set a password for the XP account you're on now.

Ok, so does that take a while to get into the system or what? Cuz I have a password on the XP machine and the W98 machine I am trying to access....I have the firewall off...I have the proper workgroup name....I have netbios over tcp/ip enabled.

I see the share..I click on it, it asks for a password...I click on the password...its sits there like a freaking piece of crap. (can you tell I am tired of this? lol)

Thanks for the help so far.

Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. .....I know many of you have done this before, it MUST be a very common occurance....someone throw out the words of wisdom!!!!

Ok, when I go thru quickbooks to try to access the share I get an error saying that the drive or network connection is unavailable. But if I make it browse the network I can click on it to the password prompt again, lol..where it...uhh...sits there.

This is fun, I wonder if I can get my pizza delivery job back.

sorry, I haven't had any experience with Win98 networking for years. All those fixes about I'm sure work with a Windows XP network though.
