9800 or 9800 pro?

is the performance really enough to excuse the $100 difference? ($250/$350 on googlegear.com) i found a few differences between the two on http://mirror.ati.com/products/radeo...o/compare.html . im gonna get a 128mb either way probably. which one should i get? how much difference would half-life 2 or DOOM 3 be on the pro? worth extra $100? let me kno!

I recommend the 9800NP because it's pretty simple to clock the speeds up to Pro-levels. If your willing to void your warrenty, this is the way to go.

Ya ArticFox is right. The NP is the way to go. Save the 100 bucks and get some zalmen 5.1 headphones for 55.

The only thing is that NP comes with 3.3ns RAM. I haven't tried overclocking mine, but PRO comes with 2.8ns RAM. You can still get the chip up to mid 400s. Memory doesn't seem to be as big a bottle neck like in older cards.

Not to thread crap or anything but how do we know how HL2 or D3 will run on any card because they aren't released yet. This thread and many others about video cards seem to say this. I have said it before those games will run on older cards maybe not as good but will do the job. No need IMO to buy a $400 video card regardless of what games. But hey its your money. I would wait for the prices to go down more. Since those games won't be released till the end of the year or later.
