That is what I would suggest. If you hadn't figured it out, the IDE channel is where the drive plugs into the MoBo. Usually, a ribbon IDE cable will have two spots on it for a drive (hard drive, ROM drive, etc...). Does yours have more than one spot on the ribbon with that one drive that is not working? If so, does that one work? I suppose I assume that it is the only one because "No CD-ROM" was recognized and your hard drive is
usually on another channel.
The next thing I would suggest is trying another cable. Rule out the small stuff first.
