Possible Mod

Hello. First tiem visiting this site. First time modder. I just bought a case with four 5'' drive bays, (CD-Rom) What i want to do, is make a retractable tray to hold my set of CDRs in the bottom two trays.

I want to have the bottom two trays to have stealth covers, the bottom one with a handle, and the two covers conjoined. Then, some how make a slidable tray that i can glue the CD holder to. So that i just pull on the handle and out slides this tray holding my CD-Rs.

How can i do this? Please help. Thanks.

Welcome to TechIMO!

SO basicly you want to take the bottom 2 bays and make a tray to slide in and out to old your cd-s? Is so it would not take that much work.

Sounds like a great idea, trouble is, I wouldn't have a clue where to start.

Most drive bays have a couple of flaps that stick out to hold the 5 1/4" device, you could use these as a draw rail/guide.

You can get draw handles from any hardware stores, you would be able to simply fix one on the front of a drive bay cover.

I guess 2 panels of aluminium or plastic, one either side with a brace at the bottom, fix the cd rack onto this and then fix the drive bay covers onto the front.

As a word of caution though, watch the heat, cdr's tend to warp when they get a tad warm. If you have a disk playing for a while, the cdrom/dvdrom will get hot.

The main problem is the tray its self.

My main problem is building some kind of track to make the thing roll out on. And does anyone know how hot is too hot for CD-Rs? There would be one drive bay's heights in between the rack and my DVD-ROM/CD-Writer. So if the air around it is 90 is that safe?

Im glad you guys like the idea, i just need to find soem way of making a track to roll it out on, plus, something so it fall out when you slide it out, (should be easy) and something... (another hard part) to keep it slighty snug, so when travleing with it, it dosent just slide open on its own. (IE: LAN partys)

Thanks.

Sounds like a great idea to me. If you get it to work you should post some pictures and your plans. I would be interested in doing something similar to my case.
