Can't delete file

I was recording today with fraps and had it running for longer than i was suppose to. The file size ended up being over 4gig(Wich is the biggest allowd on NTFS) and now whenever i view the fraps folder containing that file my computer would slow down, al hard drives would go to 100% usage, and my memory would go down to 3mb free. It won't let me delete the file, i've even tried deleteing it from the taskmanager and it still won't let me. I think since it is over 4gigs that its causing my computer to freeze/slow down. How can I delete this file?

Thanks,
Bizkitkid2001

Have you tried booting to safe mode and deleting the folder? (DO NOT try to open the folder first)

I did not want to delete the folder as I have other files in there that i needed. What I ended up doing was booting into safe mode, then i went into the folder. While in safe mode i was able to view teh files without having the computer freeze up, but i still couldn't delete that one file. So what i did was I copies over the files that i needed onto another partition and then formatted the partition with the bad file on it. I am so glad I made a partition just for fraps just in case stuff liek this does happen and i can save the files i need.

If you had xp, the system probably tried to start previewing the file, and as it was huge, the file would be reported as in use for a long time.

You can disable the preview from registry.

I think it was becasue the max allowed file size is 4gig and this file was 5.8 gigs.

Glad your problem’s solved, but if this ever happens to you in the future you
may want to give Volkov Commander a try. It’s a Dos based file manager that
will also work in Windows. It’s only 4 k in size so it can even fit on a boot disk,
anyway it works for me every time with those stubborn undeletable files.

You're mistaken about this. It's FAT32 that has a 4GB limit.

NTFS has a theoretical limit of 16 terabytes for a single file. I don't know if anyone has ever pushed that limit however. I've had single files in the range of 12-14Gb on NTFS drives in Win2k without much problem.
