Do digital cameras have motion blur?

Let's say I record a short video on a digital camera. When playing that video back, if I hit the pause button, will the image be blurred?

I have a standing bet with my room mate and we want to settle this once and for all.

I don't understand what your asking. It seems like, if I'm reading your question correctly, that after you record a movie on a digicam and want to play it back and pause it while it's playing, you want to know if the frame it froze on will be blurred. So, I'm going to say no, as it holds on one frame out of 20 or 30 or whatever speed you shot it at.

This may depend on the camera, but can you elabourate a little more on your question?

I thought it was sort of straight forward

With a normal motion camera that uses film, each frame is blurred a little bit. It's that effect of when something is moving and you take a picture but in this case, the film is moving instead of the object (try taking a picture of a moving car and see how it turns out). I'm asking if a digital camera will do that same thing when recording videos.

It is straight forward. Yes it will. The "shutter" speed is about he same so it will be blurred. I think

If I stop a motion image made with my digital "still frame" camera the image is slightly blurred, try it and see:

how fast was that king?

On the subject, I would think it would have everything to do with the shutter speed of the camera.

At least the way my camera makes movies is my taking tons of pictures. If you can take a picture without it being blurred, then the video won't be either. If I move my hand slowy, and as I am doing this, take a picture, the picture comes out clear. If I make a video of the same hand moving at the same speed, and pause the video, the image is clear.

If I move my hand really fast, take a picture, it is blurry. Idealy it's because the shutter isn't fast enough. Therefore when I make a movie of the hand going at the same fast speed and pause the movie, the hand is blurred. In fact the hand looks blurred throught the whole video.

hope this helps.
