URGENT: Windows will not install!

Ok, here is the only funny part of this. Linux will run, but windows is giving me a hard time. It posts, it goes through everything. Then it says searching for hardware. And then it says no hard drive detected, and I tried win 2000 first, and I thought that it just notmigh reconzie the 200 gig hdd. So I put XP in and i gives me the same thing.

Any suggestions?

We're going to need to know a lot more about your hardware to give you any kind of an answer. With what little bit of info you've given me here I'd guess you've got your hard drive attached to some kind of IDE card or RAID controller but given what you told me I could be waaaaaay out in left field on this one.

sound blaster 2 platnium

I hope that is enough, but I dont hav raid. I only have one hdd, and I dont know what it could be

Oh, and I got it out of the box, and never used the hdd before, and suggestions.

Is the HDD being detected (correctly) by the BIOS??

Did you try running the HDD manufacturer's diagnostics??

Knoppix. This makes a real difference. So you haven't actually installed anything to the drive yet. Hmm.

Check in the motherboard's BIOS and see if the drive is detected there. If not, then you've either got a problem with the hardware or your installation. This would be the first step.

Dumb question: Who made the hard drive? You could try downloading thier utilities and see if your hard drive is detected. It could be something as simple as a misconfiguration problem, IE, incorrectly jumpered, ATA33 cable, etc.
