Monster Cable

How much different will this make a pair of good speakers sound. I have the Z-560's and I am just using the stock speaker cables, I am thinking of buying Monster cable but its so damn expensive.

Is it worth it?

What is monster cable?

How does the cable make any difference is sound quality?

Aren't those Z-560's THX® Certified? If so, I'd go with good quality cables... not necessarily Monster though, there are other cables equally as good or better than Monster without the high prices. With Monster you're paying a lot for the name because they have the name-brand recognition reputation as being the "best".

if you are goin to have long wires to your speakes(say over 15') i would suggest going to a bigger wire size 18 gauge is a good size then. Monster Cable is a good brand but it is also expensive. if you get a fine stranded wire of the same gauge you should have no problem. if the wire you have is not shielded try to keep it away from any power cables and outlets

Audiophiles have been debating the merits of speaker wire since the days of mono hi-fi. A heavier gauge of speaker wire is certainly desirable if your runs are going to be long, and usually the stuff that gets packaged with computer speakers, even the Logitechs, is marginal on a good day.

Personally, I'd go to a good hardware store and by a bunch of 14 gauge zip appliance cord if you can find it, standard 16 gauge lamp cord if you can't, and be done with it. If you were pushing hundreds of steady-state (RMS) watts through it, something heavier and more finely stranded might be worthwhile. But over a shorter run, with relatively low power, the series resistance and capacitance of standard zip cord is negligible and in my opinion any benefits of getting something like Monster or AudioQuest cable has more to do with pride of ownership than any actual sonic differences

Just my $.02 worth. Wars have been waged over this subject and I ain't gonna get into one

I dont se a reason to spend over $50 on speaker wire. The 560's Sats are only 53 Watts each.

either way - a larger speaker wire WILL yield better results (better midrange and more accurate highs).

the reason here is because of RESISTANCE. if u use small speaker wire (i.e. high gauge, 22/24 gauge) - then depending on the audio output from your amp, the signal may experience a larger than necessary resistance and thus, degrade the final audio signal put out by your speakers.

if u use a larger wire (i.e. lower gauge, 14/16/18 gauge), then you reduce the probability of resistance and thus - get a more accurate audio output.

HOWEVER, since this is discussed pertaining to multimedia speakers - which output a lot less current/power than HT (larger) speakers do - the improvement may be minimal.

I DO NOT SUGGEST getting monster - as going to your local radioshack can save u a lot of cash. maybe a 50-foot spool of 18-gauge wire is 19.99 last time i checked.

monster or not monster - there really is no difference. as long as the wire is copper - that is good enough.

unless we are talking about powering some martin logans, adire audio, or klipsch's top RF-7 - then regular copper wire is A-ok.

there are better cables out there that mop monster wiring - take Silver Serpent - their cables are coated with silver - by FAR the BEST conductor of current around.

anyway, this is my suggestion.

spend a few bucks and upgrade to 18 or 16 gauge copper cable (no need for it to be MONSTER) and hook it to your 560s.

and whatever you do - do not get lamp cord. it has been shown that regular lamp-cord have much impurities (which ADD RESISTANCE) and that is very counterproductive to what we need to do -which is lessen the possibilities for resistance.

regular copper speaker wire will do.
