lcd vs. crt
now i know alot of people are going to say "is he nuts?" but hear me out...
i had a kds 17" xtremeflat crt monitor. i just got a 15" kdsusa flatpanel. i am gonna keep the flatpanel because of space and ease, but i was wondering what everyone's thoughts were pertaining to quality difference between crt and flat panel. it seems to me that my crt has way better quality (it has lower dot pitch) but the flat panel has better contrast.
ps, i know that i wouldnt have this question if i wasnt poor and bought a 17"$800 lcd... but i am poor so my 15" $250 will have to do

I agree with you butch. IMO a GOOD crt gives a much sharper and clearer picture then any LCD.
I personally will go with CRT's will they stop making them I have this horrible habit of seeing all the little squares in LCD's which drives me crazy I have a sony trinitron 17" and it has a beautiful display.

i just set up my lcd and am using it now, it does almost strain my eyes because of the individual pixels, but i like the monitor. the only other thing that i have to get used to is this "going to the edge of the screen" thing.. its wierd seeing your cursor go all the way to the edge....

Good LCD's are best for web surfing, server monitors, and kiosk machines. I like using my laptop for stuff like that, but when it comes to gaming and design, CRT's all the way. I'm waiting for OLED technology to mature into something I can afford.
If you watch DVD's or play games on an LCD, and then compare it to a CRT, you will notice more streaking and blurring on the flat panel. CRT's just whoop even the best LCD's when it comes to moving pictures.

Old school monitors are called CRT, Cathlode Ray Tube.
LCD monitors change color by actual crystals turning. The fact that it's crystals moving to change the color inhibits refresh rates. If you ever tried playing a fast paced game like UT on an LCD you would notice the blur is pretty bad. If you play games, use CRT, if you don't play games, buy LCD.

Uh... your referring to CRT's. Theirs flat-CRT's and the bowl-CRT's, with the curved screen. Flat-CRT's look better than the curved ones, and offer higher refresh rates in some cases (not because their flat, but because the manufacturer added them in).
I use a 19" flat CRT by Proview, and am entirely happy with it. Only cost my $230, but their extremely hard to find. If you see one, skip the non-flatscreens because their awful and go strait to the better one. You won't regret it.

I use a 19" non flat CRT and it's awesome. I got the non flat because it cost $50 less.

I have 2 17" Sony CRT's and one 17" NEC LCD.
Hate the CRT's with a passion. Give me the LCD anyday.
