sound problems with epox 8rda+

I recently bought an 8rda+ motherboard and after reinstalling windows and getting everything working I installed command and conquer renegade. When I first boot the game the intro movie is choppy and the sound is worse. After getting into the game there is no sound. I messed with the settings inside of renegade and setting the hz from 44 to 22 fixed it so that I had sound within the game although the sound on the intro still does not work.
The sound is very similar in battlefield 1942 all the way until you get to the game and start playing and then it is fine. I tried messing with the settings in bf42 but nothing seemed to work.

System specs:
ep-8rda+ I am using onboard sound
xp2000+ proc
512mb crucial ddr333
gf4ti4200 visiontek
windows 98se

My brother just bought himself the same motherboard and after dealing with his bad cd-rom drive he got windows 98se installed. His computer now acts just like mine.

ep-8rda+ Onboard sound
xp2500 barton
512mb ddr266
gf4ti4200 visiontek
windows98se

Right now he has driver version 1.15 for his motherboard and I either have that or 2.0. When he goes to install 2.0 he gets "an error occurred while launching the setup 0x80040702" when the setup process is at 1%. I tried downloading it again and it does the same thing.

Thanks for any help you can give me,
Christopher

Welp. Nvidia knows all about the sound issues. Effects some mobo's on Nforce2 and others not. Depends on app/game too it seems. Anyhow they are working on it. No hurry though it seems. Next release is a Sound driver and new control app. Then a new IDE driver for Xp. Those are next two drivers they are releaseing. So bide your time and wait like we all are. Sucks eh.

P.S. they will be standalone updates not part of the unified package.

I just put together another pc with the 8rda+ and windows xp pro and the sound works great. Is it windows 98 that causes the problem?
