Asus GeForce 4 Ti 4600 4x AGP

I bought a custom build hp pavilion 762 back last Septermber of 2002 and now the fan on my video card is crapping out. Its still running but on a regular basis it makes loud noises especially at startup in the mornings for a while. HP wants me to send in the whole machine in order for them to fix anything or get me a replacement so im like screw you, cause i dont want another one that will just probably stop working in a year. I'm gonna take the fan off myself and order me a new replacement off newegg.com. I was already planning to get some new optical drives and other stuff so i'll just pick out a heatsink fan for my gpu while im at it. I think this one here would be a pretty good choice:

http://www.thermaltake.com/products/chipset/g4.htm.

Im pretty sure i found that one listed here on newegg:

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...iption=&page=1

If any of you have had to do this before or if you have any suggestions and feedback on replacing the fan on a Nvidia card then please let me know. I've read a couple other threads on this board about people with similar problems but i thought i'd ask again .

The Thermaltake GeForce 4* Highest Performance cooler says it comes with some RAM Heatsinks along with thermal paste and grease so i dont guess i need to buy anything extra to sticking this thing on my gpu do i?

Yo. I have an ASUS G4 Ti4600. My computer SOMETIMES freezes completely. Could the video card be doing that?

Specs:

Mobo: Asus P4-C800-DX.
Processor: P4 2.6 FSB 800 MHz.
RAM: OCZ dual channel 400 MHz 512MB.
Hard Drive: Western Digital 80GB 7200 RPM.
Video card: ASUS 8460 Ultra (G4 Ti 4600 - drivers updated).
Sound card: Creative SB Live! 5.1.
Wireless PCI card: Linksys WMP11 v2.7.
Powersupply: Antec 430 watts.
OS: Windows XP Professional Edition. (Updated).

By the way, I've been getting a few blue screens with this message:
*** STOP: 0X0000000D1 (0X00000004,0X 2,0000000X0 0XEC3F8F76D)
*** wmp11v27.sys - ADDRESS EC5F8F6D BASE AT EC5F5600 DATESTAMP 3D472C2

I will be changing the wireless card to see if it was this card the one freezing my system. Thanks in advance.

That can be caused from a lot of different devices. CPU, RAM, HDD, when the video fails the system wil either tell you or you will get the Blue Screen Of Death.

Does the system lock up randomly and if it does do you hear a click from the PC.

Mine did the noise when starting up for about 2 minutes. Went out and bought some Triflow silicon lub and now not a peep.

Just remember to take the fan off and let it dry for a bit.

On second thought, I am not sure if I heard something or not. I'll make sure to pay attention next time it happens. By the way, yesterday, a weird screen appeared yesterday and made me reboot the pc. It was like weird colours and stuff like that.

Well it really sounds like the fan is going out is why im not gonna worry about trying to greese it up because i can't seem to find any place to oil or grease on it anyways. The little fan doesn't appear to come off by itselt. The heatsink is attatched over the gpu by two black plastic mounts that stick through the card and snap on the other side. So i dont really know how you would oil or greese the thing. I'll just stick with buying a new fan i guess soon because im sure these little things dont last long anyways and its a year old.

On the fan, there will be a sticker in the center; on the part that rotates. Peel back this sticker and you will see a hole. I use silicone spray to limber up my old fans, and usually a new piece of tape as the little round stickers usually don't reapply very nicely.

burningrave101 That thermaltake cooler works great and is easy to put on. Have one on a Ti4200 and one with the blue led on a Ti4600 both Gainward cards but sounds like you have the same plastic pin retention system that many of these cards have so no problem to install Just clean the chip and add some of your favorite compound like artic silver 3 or whatever the best one is now.
