Bits & Bytes ....... Help me with the math

OK, color me stupid. My brain is in lock-down.

1 byte = 8 bits
1 kilobyte = 1,024 bytes

Where and how does the "24" come from.

I accept it but don't understand the logic. Too many dead braincells I guess.

it has to do with the powers of 2...
1 kilobyte = 2^10 or 1024
