Battlefield 1942 won't install!

Alright here's my problem and I was wondering if anyone has even heard of this:

I start up the installer for BF1942 and it runs fine, as usual the cd key input dialog pops up and I type it in. After hitting ok it disappears. No error messages or anything. Just disappears.

I'm running Windows XP Pro Service Pack 1 and I was wondering if anyone has run across this problem before. To try to fix this I downloaded a SafeDisc patch, updated my videocard drivers, (geforce2 MX 400), ran disk defrag which took two days ran scandisk, sent three emails and got three responses with a ton of stuff to do that doesn't work. Please help!

Sometimes I've solved installation issues by running the setup in safe mode.
That doesn't work with every setup as some require 16bit colors and other stupid stuff.
