ALERT!!! AOL AIM User " holykigs " Infects People's Computers With Trojans!!!!!

Hello there,

My friend just got his whole computer wiped out by this person. He sent my friend "backdoor.netdevil". This trogan even got past my friends norton 2003 somehow. It totaly screwed his computer and he had to do a clean install of winxp and lost tons of his files. Why did my friend download this infected file from him you ask? Well here's the other part of the story: http://www.techimo.com/forum/t74961.html

Is there any way to track this user? I really hate ppl like this, I have had files spoiled by viruses and it really sucks.

ok i was playin a game online and someone told me to download this program, normally i would never do this but it was diablo 2 and there was hype about a new upcoming dupe so i fell for it and dl'd it and opened the file
he took a chance and fell for it. espically a program to dupe items.
As for the user. even if he does report the person not much will really happen as the virus wiped out the evidence of him having it.

Take it as a live and learn lesson. Be smart about what you download. No anti virus is 100% even with all the latest updates.

no anti virus that i know claims to be 100% effective. Each anti virus has its own type of scan engine looking at different things.

Just have to be smart with what you download

Especially not Norton. lol.
All it can do is serve as a warning for the future.

Sounds like a good reason for creating multiple partitions which include a personal files partition.

If the O/S goes south, it doesn't take the personal files along with it.

Just re-install the O/S.

Cheers!

Right on target, Beemer. I have 2 physical drives. My OS and main apps are on C drive and my data is on D drive. Been using this method through 5 system upgrades.

Yea i have my drives partitioned as well. I have never had a problem with viruses really. My friend was not so fortunate though. He had more then one trojan on his computer even though he had norton 2003. Once he got that other trojan on his computer it was totaly denying him access to his files.

So whats the best antivirus and antitrojan software out there?
