Etruscan, I need AMR help.

Hi everyone! Etruscan, I see you like AMR modems. I can't get mine to work. Is there a link to a step by step process? I need it to include the BIOS info. ............ Jorge

Welcome to the forums. In the bios you just have to make sure it is turned on....it will say something about "AC97" then it will refer to sound and modem...just make sure the modem is turned on in the bios.

Thanks, I had done that already. It was set to Auto and I switched it to Enabled in the BIOS. It had not worked so I needed more info. The modem shows communication with the computer when I do a diagnostic check in the control panel. It shows the modem on Port COM 4 and IRQ 5. Is there a problem there? I'm not sure how to check if there is a problem with that configuration. I am using Windows98SE on that computer. I am writing from my other computer with Win2K. This one doesn't have an AMR slot so I can't compare them. When I click on my AT&T logo, as I have always done, I don't get past the dial up part that says "opening port". It just keeps idling there saying it's opening the port. I went to Dial Up Networking and try dialing from My Connectiong and when I click it says No Modem Installed. I changed phone cables just in case and that isn't the problem. .... Jorge

Note that this "COM" port is just a virtual software impersonation of a legacy serial port with a modem behind it. So the COM and IRQ choices are completely arbitrary.

What does Windows's own Modem Diagnostics thing say? (In the modem's properties, from Device Manager)

It says COM 4, Interrupt 5 in the grey area of the windows. Also the UART is NS and some other numbers after it. In the white section is the following:

ATl1 A97/C258
ATl2 OK
ATl3 PCtel HSP56 MR 2.41-9K
ATl4 PCtel HSP56 MR Data/Fax/Voice/Speaker
ATl5 V.92
ATl6 Build 0037-2
ATl7 OK
AT+FCLA 0,1,8

As we speak I am on hold with AT&T's online chat support on this computer and not the problem one. I have finally connected to the internet with the problem computer but only by removing and then restoring the AT&T software. I connect to them then disconnect but when I try to reconnect, I cannot connect again. I get an error 629 saying that they have disconnected on their end. On this computer I still get to them just fine. I then use their trouble shooter in the software and it asked me to restore my settings. I did that and it connected to AT&T just fine again at 52000. I then disconnected and when I tried to reconnect it would not allow me to connect again. Well, at least for now I know the modem is working.
