Email and new domain

I just migrated some users from an ad hoc network to Win2K. There is a single server used primarily as the PDC, file and print server. When I copied the user profile information to the server and logged in, email would no longer send outgoing messages.

Put the hammer down please.

What program are you using for e-mail (client and server)? How did you copy the user profiles over?

I should elaborate. On a Win ME box, if I don't join the domain, my email works just fine. If I logon to the domain, I can no longer send email. I get an invalid login message from my external mail server This may have something to do with the current firewall. We're running through the firewall of a "managed" building.

Ok so outlook on the client, what are you using on the server side? An email provider?

Does the IP change if you join the domain? (doesn't make any sense, but sometimes when a policy changes... it REALLY changes). Its possible the firewall has authentication turned on where if you're in the domain it requires permission. ISA Server has this capability.

Send a message via AIM to Siliconjunkie
Is there something authticating the connection along the way? Perhaps a firewall on that PC or somewhere on the network. Try opening a command promt and running 'telnet mail.server.name 25' without the quotes. Sounds like you arent even connecting.

This problems occurs to me (nnnn@pacbell.net) and another user (nnn@idc-global.com) so I can only assume it has to do with the server I just built. We're both using outside providers and I'm wondering if the Active Directory DNS is trying to append something onto the address or something.

I can "see" the server at yahoo and receive some sort of response from the idc server.

Arrrgh!
