Win XP and User Profiles

Alright, I give up. I've got a couple of guys with existing laptops and, when I connect them to the network, they lose all their settings. Besides copying their profiles to the shared directory, what else am I missing?

How do you mean they lose the settings? Like user accounts gone?

I just set up a Win2K server to replace the workgroup ad hoc connections. I set up a user, shared the user directory and copied his user profile to it. When I logged back on as the local user, everything was empty. Apparently the "copy profile" command moved everything to the server.

I am really baffled by this. Isn't there any way to have the server use the local profile settings and contents.

Of course, part of the problem may be that the "old" user profile didn't match the naming convention for the net logon.
