WIN XP "page script" error when attempting to install new software

OK. Bear with me as I am not the most computer literate person out there.

When trying to install software applications (Most specifically Sims and MPIO MP3 player software) I get an error that states "cannot read page script" the installation process then frezzes and stops. No files are copied and the installshield "wizard" quits setup.

I am running WinXP on a Toshiba laptop (500mhz 256RAM)

it seems as though the installshield is having problems, I tried to uninstall it but got the same error that the page script could not be read and uninstall did not complete.

If I havent included enough info here please let me know, I havent tried anythign specific to fix the problem as I am unsure what exactly it is...

Thanks for your help

I'm guessing u have already done the following:
> a virus scan with latest virus definition updates
> a spyware scan with latest updates

if not, i'd certainly recommend doing so.

apart from 'Sims' and 'MPIO', have u tried installing any other software? maybe u can try 'winamp' and see if that installs or not

also try turning off ur virus scanner before installation

welcome to TIMO

Send a message via ICQ to Mntsnow Send a message via AIM to Mntsnow
also do your "user" have enough permission rights to install software that requires registry access? (I know that Sims requires stuff to be written to the system registry)

i was under the impression that if the 'user' does not have the required permissions/priviledges, then the installation program atleast notifies the 'user' and then quits.
