HD problems, Just installed a 160 gig maxtor.

Well, I installed it and formated, installed XP everything went fine.. Then I see the actually drive space it says 127 gig.. so I update to SP1 and installed the Maxtor large drive enabler.. but it still says 127 gig.... Whats wrong??

Go to the Disk Management (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management), and lookup the disk there. Does the one partition fill the whole drive? 160gb should really be around 149 I believe.

Ok I'm there now.. says 128.00 GB NFTS Healthy (system)

Then to the side of it says.. 24.67 GB Unallocated...

which does add together about 152 GB... How come that 24+ gig is unallocated?? how can I merge it??? <confused>

I can't remember exactly, so I'll go look it up as soon as I post this, but I think there might be a size limit on how big an NTFS partition can be for WinXP's SETUP. I know there's a 32gb limit with FAT32 during setup though.

Did you boot to the CD to install XP? Are you sure you set the partition to use the full size of the hard drive?

You can just partition it if you want...if I had a drive that big I would

Hey, I fixed it... I downloaded Partition Magic 8.0 and resized it to full now it shows 163 rounded to 152 free space.
