Domain Name Server

I just bought a domain name and now I need to set up a name server...But I dont know how. Is there any free software out there that you can do it with?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum.

I think IIS is capable of handling domains.

What OS are you on?

I believe what you want to do is actually register your domain in a DNS server so that it will propagate to other DNS servers

You can set yours up locally, but no one else will be able to use it

I'm not sure what you're talking about. But what I'm trying to do is when someone types my domain name, the name server will tell it to go to my IP address. SO when I type "mysite.com" it will go to xx.xx.xxx.xxx

r4nd.com IN NS ns12.zoneedit.com (64.246.26.64) USA: TX
r4nd.com IN NS ns18.zoneedit.com (65.125.227.35) USA: NY

Those are the name servers that it made for me. So do I make a new one but with the IP address the one where my server is located?

r4nd.com IN NS ns24.zoneedit.com (65.40.213.113)

I made that name server. So now would I go to Godaddy.com (where i bought my domain) and change the name server of my domain to ns24.zoneedit.com or ns24.zoneedit.com (65.40.213.113)? Also, would this make it so when I typed r4nd.com in IE it will show my website hosted at 65.40.213.113?

Right now www.r4nd.com and r4nd.com do resolve to your IP address.

So, yes, you need to change the DNS server entries at GoDaddy.com to 64.246.26.64 and 65.125.227.35
