Somebody please HELP ME FAST!!!

Today, we got hooked up with 2 way RCN cable internet. The cable guy hooked up the basement computer alone. Later, I took the basement computer, and put the ethernet port into a hub. I have an ethernet chord going from the cable modem to the uplink spot on the hub. The basement computer still works, but my computer, whihc is upstairs does not. It automatically assigned an IP address to my upstairs computer. When I run command, and do ipconfig /release, it works, but it won't allow me to do ipconfig /renew. Someone please help me be able to get cable internet on my upstairs computer. Thanks.

If you ave windows XP, this should all happen automatically. If you're on windows 3.11, then you got a lot of work ahead of you.

unless you purchase another ip address from the ISP you will not be able to share the internet without a router.

and no a router and hub/switch are not the same.

Did you use the Network setup wizard? That sets it all up.

Oh, I assumed he had a router. If its just a plain hub it will not work.
