Red Hat escalated the legal war over Linux on Monday by announcing it has filed suit against the SCO Group. . . . . . . ."We filed this complaint to stop SCO from making unsubstantiated and untrue public statements attacking Red Hat Linux and the integrity of the open-source software development process,"
You could kind of see this coming. I'm surprised it took this long for one of the major Linux distributors to sue.
Quote:
The company also stated that it has set up a fund, the Open Source Now Fund, to defray any legal costs that may be incurred by the Linux community. It is pledging $1 million to the fund, which will help cover the legal costs of open-source developers performing work under the GPL (General Public License) and nonprofit institutions that become involved in the SCO actions.
I too was wondering how long this would take. SCO still hasn't shown any proof or anything else for that matter, apart from trying to make people buy licences to use Linux. Anyone who did so was silly in my book, as SCO hasn't proven anything, and the case won't come up for years.
