Audigy 2-P4G8X-help

I have been having problems getting the Audigy 2 to work in the following.

Asus P4G8X Deluxe
XP Home SP1
P4 3.06 HT enabled
1024 MB PC2100 DDR dual channel
Abit Siluro FX5600 256 MB
80 GB Maxtor on the SATA channel (bbot drive)
60 GB and 80 GB on the 1st IDE channel
2 cdrw drives 2nd IDE channel

I had a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz ( a couple years old) installed and working. I removed it and made sure all drivers, as well as for the onboard AC97 sound were removed and the onboard sound was disabled in bios. The Audigy and its software installed fine, though I could get no sound. The diagnostics provided run and check out fine, but no sound. When powering on or off I get a pop from the speakers. I know the speakers work (Altec Lansing ADA 885). I then tried switching the Audigy to different PCI slots with the same results. Then I read a post about APIC and tried to switch over to "standard PC". This resulted in losing all drivers so I decided to reload XP. Now I had a problem getting the PC to recognize the 80 GB on SATA which I wanted to be the boot drive. After some trial and error, and unplugging power to my other two drives, I finally got XP to load. I also switched APIC, or is it APCI? over to PIC before reloading. When I installed the Audigy, same results. Today Creative told me to try plugging the speakers into differnt jacks? I believe it has something to do with IRQ assignments, although I think I've tried about all the combinations manually through bios. I've also flashed the bios to 1007 and downloaded latest creative drivers. I am out of ideas other than returning the card and reinstalling the santa cruz.
Any Ideas?

JK - did you resolve your problem yet? We just had the same problem and finally found it. We removed the old sound card from our XP system and got no sound with the new Audigy. Go into control panel/sounds and speech/sound and audio devices/audio tab. The sound playback default was defaulted to the old sound card. From the drop down find your Audigy and select it. That did it for us.

I hope that helps with your situation too. I found your post while searching for the answer and decided to write back.

Good luck! Kathy
