Socket-A or Socket-B

Which is faster? What AMD(s) would you guys recommend for around 150 bucks that are the faster of the bunch? I'm looking to upgrade my amd-2000 (which is socket-a but i dont know which is faster) to a higher class AMD. Any suggestions?

wtf is socket b??? never heard of it...my suggestions if you are upgrading though is to go with a new asus board with the nforce2 chipset that will support a 2700 to 3200 XP, or you could wait til the new 64 bit opterons come out and upgrade to that

No socket b only A. I think you eman tbred-A or Tbred-B. In that case-B is the best oclocker and runs cooler. And most all Bartons oclock wonderfully if you have a mobo that supports them. What mobo is it? For best $ per bang. THe 2500+ oclocked to 3200+ rules the roost.

sorry

yea i meant tbred-b or tbred-a, but i got that asus A7N8X recently, i think it can support the 3200? In that case the amd athlon-xp 2500 is the best?

Also, I just looked up at pricewatch.com the amd 2500+, and it says Socket-a is that a problem? should i be looking for something else?

No, you're fine, all of AMD's processors for atleast the last couple years are socket A... Socket A is simply that, the name of the actual socket type that the processor fits into... Tbred-A/Tbred-B/Barton, all those are designating the actual CPU core itself, thats what you need to be concerned with, because they're all socket A.

Yep, she'll run it. I have same setup. 2500+ on A7N8X deluxe. For $90 I got the king dady 3200+ oclock! Saved a few hundred in the mean time.

The 2500+ should suit you well, especially if you're planning to overclock. The bartons run at a significantly lower clock speed than the Tbreds/pallies, but have a larger cache so it spends less time waiting for the RAM. This also means there is more leyway in the clocks as its on the .13m fab, so you could probably clock it quite well.
