1 GB first Install (Win XP)

I've heard that its better to go ahead and use only 1 stick of RAM when installing Win XP for the first time, and that the windows XP install will most likely crash if you start off with both sticks in (a gig for me). Anyway, just wanted to see if this was true.

Nope, it's not true. If the RAM's good XP will install with no problems (so long as you have less than 4GB anyway). Now I will say that XP (and Windows 2000) can be very picky about hardware, esp RAM. The thing is, if the RAM's questionable you don't it in your PC anyway.

You can get a nice memory tester for free from the folks @
