Celestial Arctic - Jul 28, 2003

That Celestial word is starting to lose its meaning I keep using it so much . Anyway, I was just airbrushing in Photoshop today, and I started to get something really good so I changed the color from the red I was using to more of a bluish green, added that kick ass light thing, and then threw in some stars. Crits PLEASE!

Tools: Photoshop
Layers: 6+
Completion Time: 3 hours

Celestial Twilight - Jul 19, 2003

After I perfected one planet I was informed that there was no sure light source and that the overall effect looked 3d, so I decided to add another one, closer, having the other nebula as a light source. This seemed to add a more 3d feel to it. The planet on the right's moon is not perfectly round, this must have happened when I resized the full version off it, guess from now on I'm gonna have to create them from the size they should be :P. Then I played around with the angle and it turned out great (I think).

Layers: 27+
File Size: 17.3mb
Completion Time: 13 hours
Tool(s): Photoshop

Celestial Beauty - Jul 10, 2003

I have a few crits on this myself :P. Look real close near the bottom right of the blue star (or whatever you make it out to be) and you can see a line, well, this happened when I was cutting the excess 'clouds' (which is how I got the flare effect, I applied a outer and inner glow, and a layer (linear dodge) above it with render->clouds the render->difference clouds about a billion times :P). I guess I should have gone back and smudged it outta there, but I never had the time. Also, if you look in the star cluster on the bottom right, you can tell I got a little sloppy in my 'erasing', looks like some 2 year old's drawing in the sand. Oh well. Version 2 should be a great improvement. I can't really remember the specs on this but I know its 100% Photoshop, and its got about 8 layers.

very beautifully done, i was only able to download celestial twilight [pathetic 56K connection being consumed too many directions right now]

Im a Lightwave 3D artist, and can tell that it was not done in a 3D program, especially because you said you photoshopped that, but i must say that you have quite a bit more patience for that kind of work than i do, and i can sit down and do that stuff for dozens of hours straight.

would you mind if i "borrowed" a copy of celestical twilight and messed with it just to show you the power of true 3D+photoshop?

If you would let me, i might show you a whole 'nother world of possiblities, besides, i like toying

good work A+

*side note* don't worry about your "oblong" moon, c'mon i looked at that thing forever and couldn't tell, i would say leave it, and if anyone notices, they aren't looking for the right things in artwork, you're supposed to look for the good right?

Aye, I'm a 3D Studio Max user myself, I just like doing my space illustrations in Photoshop, the only thing I don't like about doing it in Photoshop is the difficulty of achieving good lighting, since in 3d rendering programs all you have to do is place an omni somewhere and get a beautifully litten picture, but I kinda like the challenge Photoshop gives. I don't mind if you toy with Celestial Twilight :P, as long as you don't go distributing it as yours .

hey thats great, im appreciative of your permission. I cannot stand 3DSMAX myself [barf] i feel so handicapped when i use it, i mean, its like i have tunnel vision with my models, something is screwed up with the view ports really badly, and nothing helps make it more "mechanical"

LOL, redistribute it as my own eh? that would be the most vile thing i could possibly think of doing. i just think that a few rendered asteroids in there and maybe some lighting touches would make that image look interesting.

ill get back to you when i get done with it. probably gonna be like a month, i have nonstop 12 hour shifts for the next 11 days, so im gonna be doing the "sleep, eat, work, eat, sleep" routine for awhile.

If you're interested in anything that i have done, but haven't given out to the public [a lot of damn pictures] PM me or something and ill throw them up on a webpage somewhere.
