Reseting CMOS

Some people tell me that I should reset the CMOS before I boot up the first time and some say I shouldn't. I'm new to building computers to I want to know which one is correct.

It wouldn't hurt. I usually forget to and then reset the CMOS if there is a problem.

What would be the point of resetting the CMOS if you've never booted the motherboard up before??

I've had brand new mobos that refused to POST until you cleared the CMOS. Like I said, I usually power up the PC and if it won't POST the first thing I try is to clear the CMOS. Clearing the CMOS before powering up wouldn't hurt anything.
