Food Cooling my Computer like this?!

I was wondering about my computers temperature becuase I read some other articles about for example the temp of my CPU and HD and I started to think and I came to a conclusion that I had never wondered about my computers temperature. So I decided to check it and there you go:

-My CPU was HOT (55-60 C)!
-My HD were in 20-25 C (Okay I guess)

So I became to worry about my CPU (AMD Athlon XP 2000+) because too hot is bad for it right? So I did some things:
-I took all the dust out from the cases and inside my computer
-Some parts I needed to use humid paper so get it off
-And I put 3 ventilations (the ones that you normally use when its hot in the house, like in summer)And I let it stay like that for an 30 something

And I was wondering, is this bad? Am I doing wrong by doing this? Also my doubt was Can I have the case of my computer opened with 1 ventilation machine beside it so that the temperature can decrease? I hope it doesnt make any problems to my computer and if so I am directly going to open the case and every time I use my computer im going to have the ventilation machine on I dont want to spend any money in ventilation machines for the computer. Thats why I am asking this to check if it doesnt damamge or hurt the computer.

thanks for the attention

If you have fans mounted on the side you are going to open, then don't open it. Otherwise you should be okay as long as the case isn't designed to have perfect airflow (it should be!).

what type of heatsink do you have? is it on there properly? opening the side of your case will disrupt the airflow (that is if there is airflow) so your coolling will take a hit but as long as the cooler you put next to your machine cools more than the loss your will see drop in temperature - not sure if that will help your cpu though as your case temp isnt that high

what type of case do you have? depending on how the airflow is inside the case opening it can actually make it worse (of course you can always try it and then you'll know for certian). for my case (antec performance series) i actually get better cooling with the case closed (and i don't have a fan in the side either...yet )

Nope, no fan in the side. I actually think the fans that came with it are not that good, unfortunately so I want to do my little crazy idea. Who things it will make it worse? Dont actually know my case, its not one of the famous ones like Antec or something like that, unfamiliar case. I still think 55c its pretty hot and thats why I want to try this but is it really going to work? (Not sure)

wont hurt, just easier for pets, people, etc to get in

mine also keeps cooler if i leave my case closed.

just add some fans to that case, fans are cheap. should be a place in front and a place in back if its any normal case.

I personally like blowholes but they are a bit more demanding to install

if ventilation fan works for ya, so be it. seema a bit much but ?

Well, I drilled holes in top of case to make a blowhole. I butchered my case though but it was a cheap case and I wanted to make it work. Later I got a dremel and made a nice hole in the side panel and put a volcano 9 fan on it. I also put a fan on the blowhole. Now the side blows in and the top blows out. That got my temps to 53c max. My cpu is an xp 1700 palomino and those are hot cpus.
