First try at MoBo, nothing to CRT on power up

I just upgraded my wife's HP 8160 Pavilion case with A7V33 MoBo, AMD 2500+, PNY 512MB DDR (x2), floppy drive, ATI 9600 256MB AGP and 350W ATX supply.

Primary IDE has 2 6GB disks (primary and slave).

Secondary IDE has CDRW and IOMEGA ZIP 100.

On power-up: fans spin, LEDs light but nothing to CRT screen.

I've double and triple-checked all jumpers, removed items from IDE busses one-by-one but still nothing. The LED on either of the two Monitors I've used go from Green at power-on to yellow (or rotating LED display) after a few seconds following power-on.

The MoBo frequency selector switches are set to JUMPFREE but I can't see the SETUP screen (or anything else).

Anything obvious here?

Thanks in advance,
Chuck

Welcome to TechIMO

Hmm sorry not familiar with HP's ... but what size power supply is the old one? Or did you upgrade that as well? (edit: sorry just noticed the wattage of the PSU )

I had a similar problem once, turned out the motherboard was grounded out by an anchor that shouldnt' of been there

May want to try taking the mobo out of the case and trying to power it on there...
Make sure you put the mobo on something NON conductive

Thanks for the hint. Since the last post, I've taken the box back to the shop and the tech thinks the MoBo is bad. I traded it back to them for an MSI board that is now installed and running fine without any problems.

Thanks for the input!
