WinAmp probs

I was using WinAmp 2.91 before I formatted my computer and it played movie files back perfectly, so I formatted my HDD b/c it hadn't been done in a long time, and re-installed WAmp 2.91 and it wouldn't play those same movie files (AVI). So I installed the latest version of WAmp and it still won't play those movies. It plays mpegs and the like but not these AVIs that previously worked beforehand. I tried installing the Tara Video plug-in to no avail. I hadn't installed plug-ins before on WAmp 2.91 and it worked fine. So what can I do in WAmp 3 to get it to work? Please help.

If its an avi, you may need the DiVX codecs

You will need the proper codec for the movies, such as XviD or DivX. The player is only a front-end for codecs installed to the Windows media layer (DX or VfW).

You can obtain the most popular codecs by installing Nimo's codec package.

Hope this helps,

Send a message via ICQ to griobhta Send a message via Yahoo to griobhta
I have actually found that nimo's pack can be a little buggy sometimes and now go for K-Lite which you can get here click on 'codecs' in the menu on the left.

Either way. If you just install the codecs with Nimo's, everything should work. The additional DirectShow filters in the pack are the usual failure point, especially if accidently misconfigured.

Thanks for the linkage Griobhta! If you on codecs you'll find an alternative to Realplayer in there! NICE! It could be that such a thing is common knowledge but it was news to me.

Yet one more reason why I like spending time in the forums..
