Optimizing system for Unreal Tourney 2003

I have been playing the demo for Unreal Tournament 2003, and I am really impressed with the visuals in the game. It runs a bit sluggish on my system right now and I was wondering what would be the best course of action to improve performance. Would overclocking my current graphics card boost performance or do I need to invest in a new one? Are there any software settings that would help?

Here are my specs:

Windows XP
P4 1.6 GHz
Intel D850GB motherboard
512 MB PC 800 RDRAM
ATI Radeon 64 MB DDR (Catalyst 3.6 drivers)
120 GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive

Scott

Weeeel, to get better performance, i'd suggest buying a better card.

But, before you do that, there are a few things that you can do to speed up your whole PC as well as performance applications, such as UT2K3.

1.Get Ad-aware and run it, clean all the spyware and adware from your PC.

2. Defragment your hard drive, will definately improve performance, unless done recently.

I'm sure there are some more tips that our veteran forum members can give you.

Thanks for the advice! I have used ad-ware before but it has been awhile ago so I will give that a run. If I were to go out and get a new card, what is the best card to get?

BTW welcome to Techimo VTScotty

The best card at the moment is the ATI 9700pro - 9800pro

well which radeon? olh well from the 64 it looks like the g card is the weakest thing in your machine. best card is probably the 9800 pro but thats pretty expensive so it all depends on how much money you have.........

Thanks guys...those are some good sites for optimizations. I think I will go more of the tweaking route as opposed to the upgrade because that card is a little pricey but extremely good I am sure . In my search for tweaks I came across a site that specifies which windows services to disable to improve performance http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm. What do you guys think?
