thoughts on a potential build

well i think its getting close to the time of a upgrade.

here is what i've laid out so far.

Shuttle Barebones XPC Model SN45G NVIDIA nForce2 Ultra400 ATX - Retail
AMD ATHLON XP 3000 "Barton" 400MHz FSB PROCESSOR CPU- OEM
CORSAIR MEMORY Kit 512MBx2 PC3200 VALUE SELECT. DDR RAM - OEM
WD WESTERN DIGITAL "SPECIAL EDITION" 120GB 7200RPM EIDE HARD DRIVE
Lite On 48x24x48x16 CDROM/CDRW/DVD Combo Drive LTC-48161H - OEM
Logitech MX700 Cordless Optical Mouse - RETAIL

now here comes the hard part. i can't decide on a video card. knowing what'll fit and what wont would help.
i've been thinking either a
ATI All-In-Wonder RADEON 9800 PRO 128MB DDR 8X AGP RETAIL
or a
Asus V9480TVD 128MB Geforce 4 TI4800SE DDR w/ Video In Video Out **AGP8X**

the 9800 is more expensive but its 30 bucks between the non aiw and the aiw.

the other choice is to not get one and keep my 8500le which makes this right at 1000 bucks.

i'd like to get everything from newegg. which is where everything is at right now.

if you see any flaws, or know which vid card will fit or work better, or something else that can complete it that would be very helpfull.

also i couldn't find any reviews on the 400mhz fsb 3000+ but its about half the cost of the 3200+

i think the shuttle will be a nice change from my supermicro server tower.

thanks for your time

Looks pretty sweet. I guess if you want to watch TV and do other multimedia suff on this, the AIW would be a good choice.

Right, if you're planning on getting a 9800, be careful, the PSU in your Shuttle may not support it, the 9800 takes up apparently 120W at full load.

Just givin ya a warnin' .

Well, i know the Ti4200 cards work, i don't know if the 4800 uses more power or not, best check it out.

What wattage is the PSU?

It looks like a decent built, but some questions come to mind.
Do you really need the power of a 3000+ barton, I thought that the price vs speed was not the greatest.
Alos be warned about the shuttle, they are great, look good but get HOT!!!!, and I mean HOT. Your CPU might be ok or run a bit high but within acceptable range, but your HDD will be running very HOT. My friend has one of the P4 shuttles, and his drive on idle is around 58C.

Just a suggestion.. get the XP 2800+.. about 100 bucks cheaper and runs almost the same speed.

is it a problem to have 400mhz ram and 333mhz cpu?

the whole point to getthing the ultra 400 board was for that. now, i can ge the non ultra400 and get 333mhz cpu and ram. and i think they have one in black.

i mean i dont know. i havn't built a new computer since kt133a.

the other nforce2 shuttles are more expensive and have dual moniter out. so i dont need to worry about thoes.
