Gaming Is my CPU burning?!

Hey Mates
After reading some articles about CPU temperature I decided to check the temperature of mine. After a day of surfing the web, mild gaming, the usual stuff, the temperature of my processor was 55c. It this normal or too damn burning hot? I check this every day before I boot in my bios and when I in the morning boot my computer its in 35c+. Is this normal? I mean 55c is pretty hot. Sometimes I have seen it in 60 something.

What is the ideal temperature for the CPU?
Ideal temperature for the HD? Ideal temperature for the mainboard?

thanks once again
durante

p.s. My processor is AMD Athlon XP 2000+

General rule of thumb is that 60 is pretty hot... 55 you're still doing Ok, not at much risk, but for general use especially it is fairly warm.

Ideal temperature? Depends on the processor. What one would consider good/ideal for a processor depends on the speed, however normally low-mid 40s is great (mine runs at 42C but its only an amd 2000+).

You might want to consider getting a new heatsink or some more case fans, but I wouldnt worry about it too much.

Edit -- somehow missed the "PS" part of your post the first time I read it.

Ya for a 2000+ that seems fairly warm.
Im using a Volcano 7 heatsink on mine with 2 80MM case fans (1 intake in front, 1 exhaust in back).

I'd suggest getting a new heatsink. The Volcano 9 as suggested below would sure cool it great, but those things tend to be really loud (and since its kind of overkill you might want to consider something different). Volcano 7 keeps mine around 42-43C full load

55 would be the highest i would let mine go without doing some major work to cool it, if you do want to cool it, i suggest the volcano 9 keeps my 1800+ under 40 with full load

ya thats kinda hot, what is your room temp? have you cleaned off your hs/f lately? give us a little info on your computer. how many case fans do you have and how are they blowing in/out. try takin off the side pannel if you can and see if that brings down the temp.

here are some links to general info to get some ideas for general cooling...some specs from your system might help with specific suggestions
