From what I've seen, while you can run them like that, the best performance will be seen when the processor bus and the ram bus speeds are synched..........I can attest to that as I have a 2200+ which runs far better when my pc3200 ram is clocked down to 266 mhz bus, rather than the 400 mhz bus it is capable of........

You can, but as said it's best to have it synced. If it's not synced it needs to be buffered constantly, which kills it.

hmmm.....i thought my ram seemed kinda crappy....its at 400mhz..but cpu is at 333mhz. Could you specify a program that i can use to synch this? or can this be done through mobo?

will a mobo automatically synch the ram? cause when i boot up it says ram speed 333mhz, when i know its full potential is at 400mhz. So is it being buffered down to 333 or did the mobo just synch it down?

It syncs it by default. You should have the option to set it by SPD (which will take your processors FSB), or by percentages, mhz, etc.

my options were Auto or SPD, and when set on SPD it went to 400mhz. So i guess leave it on auto?
