ok. i was helping my friend build a system from some random parts that we had laying around. we got everything together and it posted fine. we went to install xp pro and it gets to the point where the screen is blue and at the bottom it says something like "preparing to start windows" and we get a bsod. but the bsod is only half there! it is incomplete! im assuming this is very bad. we have tried troubleshooting the ram. thats about it. i know the cpu is fine. the mobo could be the problem as im not sure if it works good or not but since it posted fine im assuming it works. does anyone else know a possible solution?
specs:
msi mobo not sure which model
amd 1.4ghz tbird
1gb of sdram
300w psu
8x burner
46x cdrom
40gb 8mb cache wd hdd
gf4 mx
thats all i know about it but if you need more info ill be glad to try and find it out. thanks yall!
by incomplete do you mean half was blue with text and half was just black? More detail might help. Have you tried reinstalling? Exactly how far did it get in the installation when this happened? Was it loading drivers, or did you get into the install program where you can format/partition?
When you said it posted fine do you mean that it booted in dos? With a floppy? You might want to do a scandisk to make sure the drive's ok. Your problem sound like a corrupted data or a bad install.
ok. new situation. now it gets to the point where it asks you to hit F to format the drive and then it bsod's. weve tried everything we can think of as far as troubleshooting. im clueless.
Sounds like hardware issues for sure. Either bad memory, bad drive or a temp issue. For some reason the XP install is very picky. My gut is telling me memory, try taking some of it out, swapping it and such and see what happens.
