bypassing temp probe on a fan.

I just bought a "blower" fan that is rated at 1.34 amps. When I plug it into 12volts it doesn't do much. There is a temp. probe on it and I am thinking if I can somehow disable that I can get it to run at full speed.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Christopher

I'd think that if it were a 3pin connection you could get a molex adapter for it and that would bypass the temp sensor and run it at full out 12v... i had a similar problem with an antec tri-led fan i put on my heatsink.. when i used the regular 3pin it would only run at ~2000 rpm but since i've put the included molex adapter on it it's been running at 2800+ rpm

It doesn't seem to make a difference putting it on without the rpm sensor.

Thanks for the reply.

Snip :\

I have the same thing on my Thermaltake Smart Fan (the one on Volcano 7 HSFs) as I'm using (was using) as a case fan...seems like cutting it off would be the only way to run it full speed

Has anybody tried cutting the wire to a heat probe? And if so did it make the fan run at full speed?

Thanks, Christopher

If it has temperature sensor like the Thermaltake smartfan, just short the two leads together and it will run at full speed.

I shorted the wires going to the temp. probe and it ran at full speed. I should of paid attention to the part about it using 1.34Amps. The fan sounds like a delta.

Thanks for the info,
Christopher

Maybe pick up a varistor or something similar and insert it between the two temp probe leads. My smart fan was VERY loud at full speed as well. I think I am just going to get the Vantec rheobus for more flexibility in speed control....seems like the best solution for fluctuating room temperatures. My thought is that if you can put your HDD in suspeneded mode and run all your case fans and CPU fan at minimum speed, it should be very very quiet (a good thing when you sleep 10 feet away from your computer ).

I always find the sound of a pc roaring away quite soothing - Never had any problems falling asleep at my desk
