Can only burn small files to Sony CDRW

can only burn small files to Sony CRX1611 16x CD burner. Running XP home have tried Nero, EZCreator6, D2D at 4x 8x and 16x burnings speeds. Results the same. Can only copy small files up to five tracks...then the system freezes. cache is 2 MG which Roxio says is adequate. Don't know if have a software or hardware problem. Appreciate any thoughts...

Is the CDRW drive on the same cable with the hard disc which is providing the files to be burned?

If yes, that might be the cause, because the data transfer over the same IDE bus (also known as IDE channel, whatever you wish to call it) this causes communications problems between the 2 devices (since they are on the same cable/channel/bus) and then massive communications retries eat up time, which empties the buffer. I suspect the 5 files add up to a small total size, maybe 10 megs or less.

Anyways, always burn to a CDRW which is on a different IDE cable from the device which is providing the data being burned.
