file recovery after overwriting

@ work, and i just got a call from a guy who had saved over a 10 page paper accidently with a blank page. he wanted to know if there was anyway to undo that.

so obviously this guy is is bad shape, since he wrote over the original file. I told him it may be possible that some of the original document was still intact since the blank page is obviously smaller and shorter than the 10 pager.

i was wondering if anyone had any success with Unerase or any tools like that in recovering parts of files if not the whole thing.

Yes, they can work. Tell the guy not to do anything until he starts trying to recover.

Go on line and Google "file recovery" and there is a fair chance of finding software to recover it intact. Especially if he has a large hard drive with large clusters, meaning it isn't broken up with several FAT numbers.

worth a try...
