Systems DVI doesn't work w/ GeForce3 Ti500, NEC 1760 VM

First, my specs are in my sig - I don't think I've forgotten anything, but let me know if there is more info I should post.

Now, my problem: Basically, I can't my display to work correctly on my DVI cable (Analog connection displays fine.) When I first got the cable a few days ago (I had been using the analog for about 3 weeks), I hooked it up, and then was treated to 600x480 resolution w/ 4 bit color when windows came up, although my BIOS and initial Windows boot screens came up fine. If I changed resolutions, the screen would black out immediately, as if the change caused the signal to drop. Booting in safe mode brings up windows correctly, displaying in 1280 x 1024 and 16 bit color, which is apparently the highest setting allowed in safe mode. Anyway, through fiddling around, I once got windows to boot in normal mode with still the same low resolution, but in 16 bit color.

I tried booting in safe mode and removing my video drivers and then rebooting normally. Windows would load normally, in the aforemention 1280x1024 and 16 bit color (since it was using the default driver), and I could install the drivers for the vid card. But, when I rebooted, I was back to the same prblem - actually, not quite the same, because in the course of my many attempts, I have lost the ability to even get the 4 bit low res windows to display w/ the DVI connection. I get the BIOS boot screen, then the inital black windows logo screen, but lose the signal when I'm supposed to be headed to the user selection screen.

I have tried to use the microsoft drivers for the card, my previous version of the drivers (40.72) and the latest version (44.03). I've also tried both the digitial and analog drivers for the monitor itself, all to no avail. I can't use the 'Detect Displays' feature of the nVidia tools, or, rather, it doesn't find anything. I also can't select 'Digital display' with the tools, as its greyed out. Also, when I have both cables connected, I can't use my input selection switch on the monitor to change away from the D-Sub connection. Also, I don't know if this is pertinent, but when I have just the DVI and I get to that windows logo right after the BIOS screen, the screen goes haywire and jumps around for about 1 sec, always at the same time, as measured by the little progress bar under the logo - I'm thinking this corresponds to some driver/service/event that Windows is loading, but maybe not. . .

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Looks to me like your DVI signal path is broken - either bad cable, bad VGA card, or bad monitor.

Blondkid -

I have (or had) the same problem as you. This is a problem with the video card BIOS. Here's the link to fix your problem. I have a Visiontek Ti500, and my card now works in DVI mode with my NEC/Mitsubishi LCD.

DVI Fix

Good Luck!

Dude - thanks so much for that tip. I just happened to check back here yesterday and found your post. The procedure outlined on the link you posted worked perfectly! Now I don't feel like a goober for having bought a $30, useless, cable.
