Restoring DB Questions

Restoring DB Questions

Okay I have a silly question, but first of all some background info:

I am running a forum using phpBB 2.0.3. (on a hosted server) I backed up the DB which is about 22MB.

I installed a newer version of the forum software, phpBB 2.0.4 on the same server but in a different folder.

Both forums have different structures, I mean different number of forums and different names to the categories.

The questions:

Now I would like to back up the members (so they wont have to register again at the new forum) and also the posts in the forums with the same names as the ones in the old forum (i hope i am able to explain this well).

Now what do I do? Someone on a different forum told me that if/when i use the back up of the old forum it will overwrite everything on the new forum.

Is that correct?

If yes, what other methods are there to restore only certain data?

I have access to phpMyAdmin also.

I don't have telnet or shell access to the server.
