Video anomoly in Half-Life: Opposing Force

I've been through this game before without any video problems but now when I go under water everthing is black except when I look back at the light I'm coming from. Using the flashlight doesn't help either. I can see detail for a split second before I completely submerg but that's it. At the same time I was getting about a 1-2 second lag between keystrokes or mouse input before it responded on the screen. I re-insatalled the drivers and that problem was fixed but I still have the "black water" problem. Any idea's?
gForce3 Ti200 with 4403 drivers.

that happened to me. I had it set on direct 3d in the options. try setting it to open gl. Worked for me

Isn't it supposed to run in D3D with the nVidia cards?

I don't know cause I have a radeon 9000
