OLD! laptop satellite 320cds ram prob

I have a Satellite 320cds with 32meg on board, I,ve fitted a 64meg memory upgrade "options designed for toshiba"but the dam machine is still only reading 32 meg....
Ive tried other SDram chips from an acer machine with the same result. The tosh chip runs in the acer OK?
any Ideas?

Welcome to TechIMO, and I apologize for the delay, we usually are quicker than 4 days....

Is there an option in the BIOS to reset hardware configuration? If yes, BEFORE you enable that, write down the disk drive parameters, etc., then enable that reset, and reboot.

Depending on the age of the machine, the 64 megger may be higher-density than what the machine will recognize. I've run into that on several laptops, even sticks that are "supposed" to work in a given machine. My solution has been to visit the local "cutting edge of obsolescence" computer shop and just swap out RAM until something works. I recently had a 256 megger work just fine in a machine that wasn't supposed to be able to use it. Go figure.

Any chance of finding a manual online? That might lead you to a clue. A lot of those older ones wouldn't see anything bigger than a 32 meg stick.
