Rule of thumb: If it can run 2k, it can run XP...right?

My dad installed Win2k Pro on his Dell 233mhz, 128mb PC100 comp....he says it runs great, I'm like sweet. Didn't think it'd run on a slow comp like that. He had been having some issues with other things and had called Dell...they told him that his comp wouldn't run XP. I've always been told that a minimum requirement for both to run smoothly is 256mb RAM, right? He's go 2k on there and it runs ok, if that works, why wouldn't XP?

XP requires more RAM and is a CPU and memory hog. So, that statement is not really correct. He may start to run into stability problems with just 128MB RAM, and a 233? Slowest I've ever done, even for just testing, was a 350 P2.

thats a pretty slow machine to eb running 2k on but xp whould deffinatly be a no no. 2k is pretty good resource wise but xp is a mindless hog

this site has a XP readiness test it will tell you if you can run xp or not and may give you helpfull hints just look in the colum on the left
