Will an ATX power supply fit in MicroATX case?

I have a MicroATX system that I am looking to add more power to. I currently have a 230W PSU that came with the case. If I want to run a P4 2.4 with 120GB HD, one DVD-RW, one FDD, Radeon 9200 AGP and two fans, I'm sure that I'll need more than 230W of power.

My question is: Will a standard ATX PSU fit into my Micro ATX case? If not compatible, what kind of mods would have to be done? Or, is the ATX PSU simply too big to fit inside the case?

Welcome to TechIMO!

Seems to me, the micro only refers to the motherboad form factor, shouldn't affect the power supply in your case. I might be wrong and be corrected, but I think that is right......

I just updated my friends computer and put a new ATX 350 watt power supply into his Micro ATX Compaq case. Worked perfectly.

hmm, the problem is.. the power supply i currently have is sfx, and it seems to fit perfectly. this is because the case is not a normal tower form. it's only about 5.5 inches wide. there is only one optical drive and it sits vertically. So i'm assuming that a normal atx won't fit.. are there any other options for me besides getting a new case altogether?

Check physical size before buying one. Thats the ONLY dif. Elcetrically the are the same. Is this a INWIN case? I have one of their micro's with a powerman 180watt psu. Check into powerman psu's as they specialize in micro case psu's AND they are recomended by amd.

Xtreeme,

what are you able to run off of your 180W PSU? It seems like that isn't enough power ot run much. correct me if i'm wrong though.

also, is my current 230W enough to power a system I decribed in my first post?

"If I want to run a P4 2.4 with 120GB HD, one DVD-RW, one FDD, Radeon 9200 AGP and two fans, I'm sure that I'll need more than 230W of power."

Am I right? or would it be enough?

You can also get slim-factor PSU's from www.pcpowerandcooling.com, they have a good reputation.

well I'll say that I have a 750 AMD,with CD-RW,CD-ROM,2 HDD,FDD,and a 16mb TNT/w fan on a 245w.This is the second PSU as the first has a fan failure and burnt up, but ran for 2 years.
