desktop cdrom name changing ?

On my desktop, the icons for the dcrom, dvd, floppy, etc all list the name of the device AND the mounting point for the device. I want it to just list the name...when I right click the icon to try to change the name in properties, it shows in the name area nonemntcdrom or whatever device I select. When I try to change that to list the device name, I get an error message that tells me I failed to enter directory /mnt/whatever...when I look in the /mnt directory the devices are listed by their names only...the mnt points are not listed with them.
How do I make it so that only the device name is shown on the desktop? It is really kind of annoying seeing the big jumble of words showing me way more info than I nned!
