Artists put out dvds/vhs which contain music videos/live recordings, they can be bought.

As long as you don't share the files it's legal correct?
I don't think anyone is going to be trying to sue you if you're sharing an episode of the Simpsons though. (Well not yet at least)

I wonder what's going on with a lot of the documentaries and World War 2 video clips that I got off of KaZaa.

Ripping it from a video you OWN (bought), yes it's legal

Ripping it from the TV or from a recording (it's just like recording it actually), no.

Depends on where it came from...either way I doubt they'd really care.

I just realized that it's really stupid for me to answer questions concerning u.s. legislation

As I've said, here I can dl/rip whatever I please. But the matter is a bit different there.

Listen to the locals, as I know nothing

You can't rip it from the TV? I was pretty sure that you were allowed to do that. As long as you didn't share them on Kazaa.
I need to read up on the laws in the U.S. a bit more carefully.

Yeah muno.. You don't need to know what is going on.

It doesn't make sense, I know. But the law even with say music is not just *you can't share it*...it's straight you can't have a copy of it legally.(without depriving someone else of their copy [say you borrow your friend's CD])

But with like documentaries, I think most of the money they make anyway is from selling the stuff to schools and such, rather than individuals.

Ever watch the Discovery Channel? Almost all their shows are for sale, to anyone that wants to buy them.
