Talk Few more questions :)

I have 1 dvd drive, 1 floppy drive, and 1 hard drive.

the floppy has its own cable, and the other 2 cables i have are "weird" (noob talk) cables... theres the part which connects on the mobo and then theres one that goes into the hard drive/dvd, but then theres another connector on the top? what am i supposed to do??

and for my case fans, they have two molex conncetors, one male and one female, do i stick each of them into the power supply?

thanks

eryk

Are you meaning the IDE cables or the power cables? That info would help.

No, that connector is like a "pass through". You connect one end to the power supply, then the other end is left open to connect to a drive, another fan, or any other device requiring that type of molex connector. Hope this helps, Matt

Send a message via AIM to originel
I'm pretty sure he's talking about the IDE cable

the other plug is for another drive. with one cable you can plug in two different drives

can i leave it out then?

so i basically will have 1 for the floppy and 1 each for the hard drive/dvd and 2 left over connectors for future drives?

Well, it should have 3 connectors. One that goes to the motherboard, then 2 closer together on the other end. The end one is usually designated as "Master" or the first drive on that channel. The second one is the "slave". Note that these dont really matter if the jumpers on your devices are set different. I hope this helps some more.

Just plug both devices into the end connector of different IDE cables, and leave the middle connectors free. That way they will both be set as masters in the BIOS - on separate IDE channels, primary and secondary. So you will have a Primary Master and a Secondary Master.

As long as the jumpers on the devices are set to either master or cable select, which would be how they would be likely to come form the manufacturer.

Cheers

Cable ties will neaten 'em up, Eryk.

Try to make sure they don't obstruct airflow from the front ventilation, over the CPU HSF, and out the rear ventilation.

That's the most important reason for neat cables. That, and not getting them caught in any fans!

Cheers
Mick
