smoke inside the computer?

i know this may sound stupid, but hear me out... is smoke/fog from a smoke machine harmful to the computer? i know that it wouldnt be good to blast the insides with it but is it that bad? i am asking because i dj using my computer as an equilizer and was wondering if the smoke is going to hurt it.

also, although i wouldnt do this, i had the idea of putting something (maybe smoke/fog, but something non harmful) inside my computer and running the fans to see if there are any true dead spots. any suggestions on what i could use and not kill my computer?

I'm pretty sure that a little smoke would be OK. If nothing else, you could always use some canned air or an air compresser and blow everything off afterwards.

The danger would be what the smoke is based on. Cigarette smoke is so bad for computers because when it lands it makes things sticky so dust sticks to it and it can clog fans.

Like Hawk said, would depend on what the smoke was composed of. Any smoke based on burning carbon would be bad, as carbon soot deposits could be conductive, potentially.

You can get little "smoke generators" that they use to test airflow in airconditioning system in buildings and stuff. These may be OK, as it's more a coloured gas than a smoke.

What you want is this kind of "tracing smoke", rather than something generated from burning. Just make sure it doesn't leave a residue first, and it should be fine.

Cheers
Mick

I agree with the above, if the 'smoke' is safe for people.

If your thinking,'fog':

http://www.best-price-fog-machines.c...e-question.htm

shouldn't be much of an issue, if you mind residue and condensation!

personally, I think the effect would be mptiiw, but I haven't seen your setup. Though make it work, could be cool.

you could always set up some extreme cooling using liquid N2, which would have the side effect of 'fogging', misting, freezing???

could always get rich selling integrated:

computer as an equilizer, 'fog' machine?

wait, just get 'fog machine', with USB control. Then put PC, fogger, where needed, connect with 15' cbl/wifi?

Ah, but Pickel, you have an inbuilt filtering system (called a nose ). And unless your PC has incence burnt inside it, not much will get in there.

But this chap wants to run the smoke through his PC, like a air flow test. And incence leaves ash and stuff, even from the smoke (hold a glass over the burning incence, and you'll see what I mean ). Not a good idea to coat the insides of your PC with, IMO.

Cheers
Mick
